ERVHN is working with ERYC Adult Learning and Employability to deliver further training on successful grant application in 2025. The dates will be announced in the future.

Fire Risk Assessment

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 affects employers and those who are responsible for non-domestic, industrial, commercial and residential premises. As a business you are required to comply with this legislation. The previous requirement to have a written fire risk assessment only applied in certain circumstances, for example, where five or more persons were employed, or if you had a licence. Since 1 October 2023, it has been a requirement to have a written fire risk assessment (regardless of the size or purpose of the business or premises) and have your fire safety arrangements recorded in full. The purpose of the fire risk assessment is to identify potential hazards and risks and those persons at risk, together with any control measures you may need to introduce or have to maintain. Please contact John Newlove via email hallmark.ervhn@gamail.com for further information.

Trustees' Roles and responsibilities

The Charities Act 1993 (S97) defines charity trustees as the persons having the general control and management of the administration of a charity. The charity commission requires all trustees to - ensure the charity's purposes are carried out for public benefit -comply with the law and the charity governing documents -act in the charity's best interest -manage resources responsibly -avoid undue risks to the charity's assets, beneficiaries or reputation -not over-committing the charity and -take special care when investing or borrowing. This session is now closed.

Health & Safety Awareness

The proliferation of health and safety legislation can seem daunting to volunteer committee members but everyone, whether managing or hiring a village hall, will want to ensure that the building is safe and fit for purpose. We are planning an introduction to risk assessment and dates will be announced.

Food Hygiene Awareness

It is advised that all halls providing food and drinks undertake food hygiene awareness training. We are planning to deliver this training which can be made available for the volunteers. The dates will be announced in the future.

Forward Planning Workshop - 2 hours

This workshop gives your Trustee/management committee dedicated time, and the opportunity, to consider the future of your hall in an open and friendly and interactive environment. The aim of the workshop is for you as a Trustee/management team to be able to complete a draft Forward Plan for your hall. The Forward plan should give an overview of the charity and its assets, the hall, its aims, how it works, its financial background and status. It should identify your community and needs and consider how your hall can be more sustainable for the future. Village and community halls have been encouraged to adopt a more ‘social enterprise’ or ‘business minded’ approach to the management of their hall and for this you will need a forward plan. Please contact chairman.ervhn@gmail.com to express your interest.
